Throughout history, new technology has created industries and jobs that did not exist before.
- create entirely new industries
- generate jobs that did not exist before

When cars replaced horses, new jobs such as taxi drivers and mechanics appeared; AI is likely to create similarly unexpected job categories.
Jobs that require empathy, trust, and face-to-face human connection are difficult for AI to replace.
- require empathy and trust
- involve face-to-face connection
- depend on human judgment
A nurse who comforts a worried patient, or a counselor who listens carefully to a client, is doing work that depends on human connection, not just information processing.

Because AI can make serious mistakes, someone must always be responsible for checking and approving its decisions.
- check and approve AI decisions
- take responsibility for mistakes
- remain accountable to the public
When a self-driving car is involved in an accident, someone still needs to be legally responsible, which is one reason humans remain essential in many AI-related fields.

I disagree that AI will take away many jobs in the future. First, new technology has always created jobs that did not exist before. For example, cars replaced horses, but this created new jobs such as taxi drivers and mechanics. Second, some jobs need human empathy and trust, which AI cannot easily provide. A nurse who comforts a worried patient is doing work that machines cannot replace. For these reasons, I do not think AI will simply take away human jobs.

I disagree that AI will simply take away human jobs, although its effects will certainly be significant. To begin with, history shows that new technology tends to create industries that did not previously exist; just as the automobile industry produced jobs such as taxi drivers and mechanics, AI is likely to generate similarly unexpected roles. In addition, many jobs depend on qualities that AI cannot easily reproduce, such as empathy and trust. A nurse comforting an anxious patient, for instance, is providing something no algorithm can replace. Admittedly, AI will make certain repetitive tasks obsolete. However, this is likely to shift the nature of work rather than eliminate it entirely, much as automation reshaped, rather than destroyed, the job market in the past. For these reasons, I believe AI will transform work more than it will end it.
